Blue Eagles FC are the champions of 2019 Bingu Ikhome Bonanza after their win over Be forward Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium.
In an entertaining encounter, Blue Eagles were first to score through Schumacher Kuwali who made an easy finish from Vimbiko Kumwenda’s great pass.
The Area 30 outfit enjoyed possession for the most part of the first half through the goal scorer Kuwali, Vitumbiko Kumwenda and Gilbert Chirwa.
Wanderers were unable to make any serious move from the midfield. Francis Mkonda was nullified and Manyozo’s fitness was very questionable, any contact he was down and losses balls.
Francis Mkonda equalised deep inside first half as he headed home Francis Mlimbika’s cornerkick.
Despite a goalless second half, both teams had numerous chances. Blue Eagles goalkeeper, John Soko made double saves on two occasions to deny Wanderers from taking the lead while Blue Eagles hit the bar twice through Schumacher Kuwali and Gilbert Chirwa.
After 90 minutes the game went straight into penalties, both Richard Chipuwa and John Soko saved two penalties while Francis Mkonda hit the crossbar.
Wanderers scored through Alfred Manyozo, Francis Mlimbika and Lucky Malata while Babatunde Adepoju, Francis Mkonda and Bongani Kaipa missed their spot-kicks.
Onesimo Mbendera, Kingsily Kuwali, Schumacher Kuwali and Vitumbiko Kumwenda scored for Blue Eagles while Gilbert Chirwa and Maxwell Salambula missed their penalties.
After the match coach for Blue Eagles said they deserved to win the match “I thank my boys for displaying good football, according to our performance in the entire 90 minutes we deserves to win at all cost”
Oscar Kaunda for Wanderers conceded the defeat “we created many scoring opportunities but we failed to convert, we have lost through penalties which are unpredictable. Congrats to Blue Eagles for their win today”
Before the final Silver strikers relied on goals from Khuda Muyawa and Danken Nyoni to beat Bullets 2-1. Nelson Kangunje scored the consolation goal for The Peoples Team.
