Bwalo la Chewa gives Ndira Burial Guard of Honour

Burial of the late Mr. Ndira, who until his tragic road accident in Ntcheu was an influential member of Bwalo la Chewa Foundation [BOLA–CEFO], was held on Sunday at his home village, Makumbi, in the area of Senior Chief Msakambewa [Chewa – Mkanthama clan] in Dowa district.

Chewas from all walks of life joined by other tribal groupings paid their last respects to Ndira, who played and was part of the Chewas forming Bwalo la Chewa Dowa district Chapter working towards preserving and promoting the aspirations of the Chewas in the district.

His Royal Highness Paramount Dr. Lundu directed that the late Ndira be accorded a full Chewa Guard of Honour mounted by traditional Chewa culture with a flag raised adjacent to the site where Ndira was buried.

Led by Senior Chief Dr. Kaomba of Kasungu, Bwalo la Chewa Chiefs Council and other Chewas in all Chewa districts in Malawi gave the burial ceremony of the late Ndira, a hero among the Chewa tribe because the Guard of Honour conducted on the day is only accorded to Traditional Chewa Chiefs be Paramount, Traditional Authorities and their Indunas.

Speaking at the burial ceremony, Bwalo la Chewa Foundation’s Executive Director, Reverend Flywell Somanje, described the late Ndira as a hero and a pioneer of Bwalo la Chewa in Dowa district saying His Royal Highness Paramount Dr. Lundu is deeply saddened with the death of Ndira who was a diehard member for the grouping in Dowa district.

Reverend Somanje thanked His Royal Highness, Paramount Dr. Lundu for directing that the burial ceremony be conducted following Chewa Chiefs protocols that the late Ndira was not just an ordinary member for the grouping but for the entire Chewas in Dowa district.

…”We want also to thank all who have contributed their support to this funeral service, be financial or materially that without them, this would have been a challenge to all of us to accord a full Guard of Honour to our departed  member,’’….said Rev. Somanje.

The late Ndira met his fate in Ntcheu when a vehicle in which he was travelling in, carrying 62 people on board, was hit by a truck belonging to a business tycoon of Mponela in Dowa district, Mfitiidzafanso Transport on Saturday night.

The tragic accident claimed one, Mr. Ndira, who was pronounced dead upon reaching the Dowa District Hospital, 11 people injured and were treated as out –patients with one battling for his life receiving treatment at Ntcheu District Hospital.

The late Ndira, the injured ones and  survivors involved in the road accident in Ntcheu were coming from Thyolo where they witnessed an induction ceremony of Traditional Authority Ngomano to Chewa chief in the district.
