Speaking during the press briefing on wedsday in Lilongwe Chamaca president Frank Tawulo says the purpose of the events is to raise funds that will help to reduce cervical and breast cancer.
”we are asking the cooperate world, individuals and all well wishes within and outside Malawi to help us with this ride which will start from Limbe to Mulanje via Thyolo.
”we are hoping to get money which we can use so that we can go in the rural areas and screen women so that they do not develop cervical and breast cancer in Malawi.
”we will go into all the villages in Malawi reason being that with our experience at Queen Elizabeth central hospital most of the cases of cancer come from the rural areas, and these villages which are miles away from the hospital so its an issue of access to health services, ” says Taulo.
He further says that as the health providers they will go where those women are because they are very busy people and its not easy to leave home and go to hospitals so its important for the hospital to go to them so that many cases of cervical cancer should not be the story.
”we are targeting mainly items of the screening and also we also targeting all women but mainly all those in reproductive age group between 25 above to 45 and 50 years because we have seen that alot of cancers among these women and anyone who will going to seen there we will give them an opportunity to screened, he lamented.
Tawulo added that Malawi started a bit late screening cervical cancer in late 90’s but so far is doing well because of priority area within the ministry of health and other thing is that alot of women they don’t have services within their area so that access and late starting of the screening is causing a high propensity of disease in this country.
The object of chamaca is to give an opportunity to each and every women who are at risk of developing cervical and breast cancer in this country.
According to the research it shows that 3000 women die every year from cervical cancer and almost over 4300 new cases are developing each and every year and within the region also it has been noted that Malawi is doing badly in the cases of cancer in the cervix that’s why the priority is not only for chamaca but also the ministry of health and population to intervene.
The ride against cancer events will involve the various organization like FPAM, PSI, Malawi blood transfusion, MASM, Mulanje district council and many more. Malawi police band will entertain the people and also people who come to ride will be given opportunity to donate blood.
The ride it will cost k8000 for individual , k800, 000 for cooperate world and $100 for the people from outside the country at any kilometers.
