Ntchisi, August 27, Mana: Four people have been arrested in Ntchisi for stealing solar panels from Nkhotakota Game Reserve, police have confirmed.
Ntchisi police spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha identified the suspects as Grecian Kwenda, 36, from Mwalikula Village, James Cholera, 38, from Chiwondo Village, Joseph Kalimila, 30, from Kawiya Village and Fleza Sefasi from Mbuluma Village, all from Traditional Authority Nthondo in the district.
He said the suspects, on August 24 this year (2018), are alleged to have stolen solar panels and batteries which were used for supplying electricity to a wire fence around the game reserve.
“Acting on a tip from some well-wishers that one of the suspects was selling a solar panel, the police arrested him and the solar panel was recovered,” said M’bumpha.
He said the suspect disclosed his three accomplices to the police which led to their arrest and recovery of four solar panels, six solar batteries and other items that officers from the game reserve identified as belonging to the reserve.
The suspects will appear in court for theft charges.
