Civil Society Organizations under the banner Human Rights Defenders Coalition—HRDC has issued scathing demands to government including; calling for the resignation of top government officials mentioned to have masterminded the killing of an albino McDonald Masambuka.
Recently the suspect in the killing of Machinga man with albinism Masambuka, Alfred Yohane, made a revelation in court that some government officials, are involved in the malpractice.
According to the coalition’s vice Chairperson Gift Trapence, President Peter Mutharika has to accord to the ultimatum in order to pave way for justice to prevail.
HRDC has however, reiterated its appeal to president Mutharika to dissolve the commission of inquiry which was instituted to investigate on the issues surrounding the killings of persons with albinism.
“HRDC demands immediate resignation of all those top government officials connected to the killings of persons with albinism. No wonder the country was failing to find lasting solution to end killings of persons with albinism,” said Trapence.
Meanwhile the judge who was presiding over the case Justice Zione Mtaba has recused herself to continue with the matter, on the grounds that she is related to one of those people being mentione who are being accused to have engineered the death of Masambuka, Dr. Heatherwick Mtaba.
On the other hand the grouping plans to drag the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)- led government to court, to force the release of Issa Njauju’s report which reveals a glimpse into what transpired for him to be killed.
According to HRDC the report released by British Commission, implicates some top government officials as well hence the dilly dallying to release it to Malawians.
