The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has accused the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) as incompetent for failing to submit original results sheets to the court as per court order in the ongoing elections case.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) through court asked MEC to surrender all electoral results sheets as evidence in the case where the two are challenging presidential results citing irregularities.
To this far MEC has failed to submit the documents to court a development which has ensued mixed reactions among Malawians.
Addressing members of the press on Friday in what was dubbed as solidarity presser, to welcome two of their members namely Gift Trapence and MacDonald Sembereka.
Trapence said that the conduct simply shows how MEC mishandled the 21st May tripartite elections.
The two accused government for bringing political propaganda in the issue.
Trapence said their arrest has motivated them further to demand for accountability with rising impunity happening in government.
Trapence and Sembereka have been given bail after spending three days in police cells as they were arrested on fraud allegations.
According to National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera, Trapence and Sembereka were arrested after UNAIDS lodged a complaint to the police that the two misappropriated funds meant for various projects.
