The Malawi Council for the Handicapped ( MACOHA) Flag Week which was planned to be held on 9th November at Senior Chief Dzoole’s headquarters in Dowa district has been shifted to 16th November, 2019.

Every year, MACOHA observes Flag Week in order to raise awareness on issues concerning persons with disabilities and raising funds for their support.

Briefing the District executive council committee in Dowa on Thursday, MACOHAs District Rehabilitation Officer, Billy Maupa, said His Excellency the State President of the Republic of Malawi, Professor Peter Mutharika will buy the first flag at K1 million at the Sanjika palace in Blantyre on 11th November, 2019.

Maupa said the 2019 Flag Week will create awareness on the need to send children with disabilities and keep them in school.

He said MACOHA will raise funds to support initiatives to do with education of children with disabilities mainly school fees for the deserving but needy learners and also to ensure that they have assistive devices they need to learn effectively.

The open Day which will be held under the theme: Education- Key to social- economic development for persons with disabilities will be graced by the Minister responsible for Disabilities, Hon. Mary Navitcha.
