#MalawiElections2019:Henry Mussa accepts defeat

As more influential and seasoned politicians and former Cabinet ministers continue tumbling in last Tuesday elections, Henry Mussa has accepted defeat and congratulated his challenger Davie Joseph Nomale for winning Chiradzulu East Constituency.
Although the Malawi Electoral Commission is yet to announce official results for the constituency, unofficial votes counted indicate the fortune has fallen in Nomale’s favour.
In an interview, Mussa said he accepted the defeat because people in his area have decided so.
“I have accepted it wholeheartedly. This is one of the tenets of democracy and the people have decided.
“They have exercised their constitutional right by chosing Mr Nomale who I competed against during our party’s primary elections,” said Mussa.
He said he holds no grudges against Nomale and is ready to offer his expertise any day, any time should he need his services.
“After all the ultimate goal is to develop our area and our nation,” he said.
Mussa has served the people of Chiradzulu East for 20 unbroken years and over 15 years as Cabinet minister under different administrations.
The seasoned politician, who was once treasurer general of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), runs several businesses ranging from insurance services, security, farming and transport among others.
