The Lilongwe Maseko Ngoni on Sunday officially opened a branch in Chikuti, Lumbadzi in Lilongwe as one way of strengthening the Ngoni Culture.
Chapter Chairperson, Andrew Kamlopa, told Malawi News Agency (MANA) that their aim is to have branches across Central Region.
“We have opened this branch here at Chikuti in Lumbadzi with the aim of reaching out to those Ngoni people living in this area so that we can work together in preserving our culture,” Kamlopa said.
He said the opening of Chikuti Branch will be the starting point for the chapter’s vision to bring together all Ngonis who were not known.
“I want to encourage all Ngoni people to come together and help in saving our culture. To my fellow Ngoni tribe, they should not treat this grouping as a political party, this is for everyone who knows that he or she is Ngoni,” Kamlopa said.
In his remarks, Chikuti Branch Chairperson, Kulanga Masina said he was happy to see the Maseko Ngoni promoting their culture in Lumbadzi.
“It is great to see people of Ngoni tribe passing on their cultural values to the next generation. This will help us to preserve our culture.
“I want to encourage parents to send their children to Ngoni schools and events so that they can be practicing Ngoni cultural values to be in their veins forever,” Kulanga said.
In her remarks, Lumbadzi zone chairlady, Rose Gondwe Naphiri said activities of the Maseko Ngoni in Lilongwe Chapter are keeping the culture alive in the city.
“This has shown us that people are able to preserve culture regardless of where they are,” Gondwe said.
