Mighty Wanderers reignited the TNM Super League title race as they beat Ekwendeni Hammers 2-0 to reduce gap between them League leaders Nyasa Big Bullets to two points.
Ekwendeni Hammers started on a high note as former Wanderers forward Mikel Teteh and Wister Phiri combined well on two acassions inside first ten minutes but their their efforts were denied by goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa.
Mighty Wanderers knew that a goal will demoralise Ekwendeni Hammers and the took over the control of the game in search of the opener.
Yunus Sheriff broke the dead lock after 19 minutes as he finished a Francis Mlimbika powerful shot from close range to make it 1-0.
Wanderers kept on dominating possession and creating numerous chances in the entire first half but they were unable to convert into goals until half time.
In the second half it was a balanced affair with both teams having few scoring chances.
Mighty Wanderers made some changes as they introduced Peter Wadabwa and Misheck Botoman for Vincent Nyangulu and injured Yamikani Chester.
With just eight minutes to go it was Peter Wadabwa who headed home a Stanley Sanudi’s cross to put the game beyond Hammers reach.
A win for the Lali Lubani outfit has moved them to 54 points, two behind leaders Nyasa Big Bullets and a point adrift of second placed Silver Strikers.
The Nomads will face Blue Eagles this weekend while Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers will play away to Moyale Barracks and Kamuzu Barracks respectively.
In another match Red Lions have suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of TN Stars.
The Kasungu outfit relied on Alfred Chizinga’s brace to collect maximum points.
