MISA Malawi is sending its heartfelt condolences to the Chimpweya family, relatives and the media fraternity following the sudden, untimely and shocking death of Nation Publications Limited [NPL] Photojournalist, James Chimpweya, who passed on in the wee hours of Sunday, 29 November 2020.
Chimpweya collapsed in Chikwawa on Saturday 28 November, and was admitted at Chikwawa District where he passed on.
He was in Chikwawa covering an event by Living Waters Church [LWC] Radio where he was also a patron of an initiative for helping underprivileged children. This is contained in a press statement signed by its chairperson, Teresa Temweka Ndanga dated 29 November 2020.
In the statement, MISA Malawi has described Chimpweya as a fountain of photojournalism knowledge and experience in the journalism fraternity and will be remembered as a photojournalist and a father figure to most journalists in Malawi.
MISA Malawi further describes Chimpweya as one of its long–time member, having joined Nation Publications Limited in January 1999 after some years of working with Blantyre Newspapers Limited [BNL].
…”In a media career of over 20 years, he has told thousands of stories and pictures in words, his passion for the media sector and MISA Malawi work will always be in our hearts’’….reads the statement in part.
Meanwhile, burial for James Chimpweya, born on 5th October, 1957, will take place at Thabwa in Chikwawa district on Tuesday, 01 December 2020, and the vigil will be at his residence in Ndirande [Safarawo].
