Members of Parliament have expressed shock and dismay over a letter by the Concerned football lovers in Malawi which is in circulation in the country’s social media calling for the immediate dismissal of Flames coach, Ronny Van Geneugden ( RVG) and resignation of FAM president, Walter Nyamilandu Manda.
The MPs said the letter is circulating at a bad time when Parliament is expected to invite them for their petition which it received on 30 November, 2018 and was read in the National Assembly on 13 December, 2018.
The MP speaking on a strict condition of anonymity argues that the Concerned football lovers while fighting to make football great again, would have waited for the Social and Community Affairs Committee of Parliament which is meeting on 4th to 8th February, 2019, present its findings and recommendations to the National Assembly which is expected to meet within February, 2019 and thereafter, they were supposed to take action.
In a letter dated 14 January, 2019 signed for and onbehalf of Concerned football fans in Malawi by two sports activists Henry Gome and Kalowe Ajasi, reads in part…..having noticed gross incompetence on coach RVG and FAM president Walter Nyamilandu Manda coupled with a string of poor results and increasing cases of theft and fraud in football circles…………
The Concerned football fans said RVG is here in Malawi on a fully paid holiday by Malawian tax payers, hired under questionable circumstances with strong reports suggesting that he was given the Flames top most job based on his You Tube videos and not on his previous performance and achievements as a football coach.
They believe that FAM hired RVG by accident as no any serious footballing nation would appoint a person with no any reputable track record in football coaching to manage their national team.
The Concerned fans said Walter Nyamilandu Manda has lost interest in the game and is completely out of touch with football reality, appears not to care about his integrity anymore and is happy to remain in football administration.
Meanwhile, the Concerned football lovers are demanding the National Council of Sports to summon FAM president and his committee to explain how they are running the sport, send auditors to FAM to establish how funds are being used, ACB director to investigate on corruption allegations at FAM on the procurement of goods and services and hiring of technical staff and Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service to facilitate police investigations into theft and fraud allegations on the sale of fake tickets and theft of over K5 million during matches involving Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers that took place in 2015 and 2018 respectively with the names of those involved be made public and allow the law to take its course.
