MyBucks Banking Corporation in its vision to become the best Bank in Malawi in Social Capital, on Monday, donated MK 4.6 Million towards the launching of the National Clean -up Day initiative that is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Forestry and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
The Bank said through this launch, the Government of Malawi will designate the afternoon of second Friday of every month from 12;00 hrs to 17;00 hrs as a National Clean –up Day where all able Malawians will be taking part and participating in various cleaning up activities of their surroundings.
It says some of the activities include; cleaning of markets, offices, open spaces, beaches, industries, business places, schools, hospitals, streets, homes, places of worship or cutting grass, trimming bushes alongside the reeds, planting trees and many more in order to make our country clean.
This is contained in a statement when the Bank was presenting a cheque of MK 4.6 Million towards the National Clean –up Day initiative held in Lilongwe.
In the statement, the Bank said during this time of cleaning activities, all non –essential services will be closed for the three hours to enable everybody participate in the clean –up exercise.
According to the Minister of Forestry and Natural Resources, Hon. Nancy Tembo, the National Clean –up Day, represents a shared vision and common responsibility for a clean and healthy environment.
Tembo said the Day will help Malawi to achieve the objectives of and align to the country’s aspirations of a ‘’Clean and healthy environment management Act and the Local Government Act.
……’’The National Clean –up Day aims at contributing to cleanliness of our country, instill a culture of cleanliness in Malawians and promoting environmental consciousness, and positive behavioural change in the way Malawians manage waste in the country,’’…..She said.
She said clean –up will address problems associated with indiscriminate waste disposal including a pollution of open spaces, water resources, and the environment.
On her part, MyBucks Managing Director, Zandile Shaba, advised that as a responsible corporate citizen, the Bank seeks to play an active role in this initiative in order to support the realization of a clean and healthy environment for all the people of Malawi.
……’’We believe that this initiative that seeks to promote a clean and healthy environment, will in turn enhance general health and well –being of the population, this leading on high productivity of the citizenry which is a vital ingredient to economic development of the country,’’….said Shaba.
She said in addition to the donation made, MyBucks will ensure that it adopt this initiative fully where possible considering that it offer essential services, saying the tenants of this initiative will be engrained in their DNA, and it will ensure that all its premises and surroundings are spotlessly clean at all times.
