Silver beat Bullets on penalties after a 1-1 draw

Silver Strikers beat Nyasa Big Bullets 3-2 on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw at Bingu National Stadium in FISD challenge cup.

Chimwemwe Idana’s 46th minute strike, put the visitors ahead after the two sides played out a goalless first half.

Peter Banda who was voted man of the match was the architect of the goal. He received the ball from Mike Mkwate 40 metres away from the opponents goal, he dribbled past three Silver players before sending a dangerous cross in the box. Silver goalie, Brighton Munthali pallied the ball to the direction of unmarked Idana who sent a low shot into the corner of the net.

After the goal, Silver Strikers made some changes, they brought in Levison Maganizo and Thuso Paipi for Maxwell Gasten and Jack Chiona. The changes helped the Central Bankers to improve their play.

After knocking for several time, the Bankers equalized with just 12 minutes to go through Mikel Tete who was left unmarked from the back post.

The People’s Team made some changes in the closing stage of the match, they introduced Fischer Kondowe, Dalitso Sailes and Luke Chima for Mike Mkwate, Hassan Kajoke and Chiukepo Msowoya while the home side introduced goalkeeper Charles Thom for Brighton Munthali but it was too late for both side to get the winning goal.

After 90 minutes it was the time for the penalties to decide the winner.

Bullets scored through Charles Petro, Fischer Kondowe and while Dalitso Sailes, Sankhani Mkandawire and Gomezgan Chirwa scored their spot kicks.

For Silver, Khuda Muyaba and Young Chimozi Jnr missed and they scored through Thuso Paipi, Danken Nyoni and Mark Fodya.

After the march Assistant coach for Bullets blamed his boys for giving away the lead “We were upfront in the minutes of first half but my boys gave away the lead, had it been we defended well we could have won the match”

Coach for Silver Abasi Makawa hailed his boys for the hard working spirit. “We were trailing but I encouraged my boys to fight until last whistle, they worked very hard and equalized. After penalties we’re the victors”
