Stain Davie’s late strike from the spot gave Silver Strikers victory in a tightly contested Lilongwe derby.
Chisomo Mpachika’s penalty put the home side ahead after 12 minutes and they extended their lead 25 minutes later through Danken Nyoni’s brilliant finish.
The Servants struggled in the opening minutes of the first to match Silver’s pace and fittness level no wonder they handed the host a comfortable 2-0 lead before half an hour mark.
Civo started gaining momentum in the closing stages of the first half and the Franko Ndawa’s side reduced the deficit within the last four minutes of the first half through Muhamad Sulumba’s header.
In the second half silver strikers introduced Kondwani Mwaila, Maxwel Gasten and Brighton Munthali for Mphatso Dzongololo, Thuso Paipi and Charles Thom while Damiano Kunje, Ibrahim Sadic and Tione Tembo replaced Chikondi Maloya Timothy Silwimba and Charles Swini for Civo Sporting Club.
The substitutions helped Civo to raise the temple of their game as they started pressing silver high. The penetrations of Sadick and Kunje in wings caused havoc to Silver defence.
Timothy Silwimba’s shot just from outside the box levelled the scores but with two minutes to go, the referee awarded another penalty to Silver after a foul on Danken Nyoni which Stain Davie converted.
It was a second defeat in just 24 hours for Civo Sporting Club after their loss to Blue Eagles yesterday in Lilongwe Soccer Fest while silver rejuvenated from their loss to KB.
