UTM Distances Itself from Mzuzu Councillor’s Remarks

The United Transformation Party [UTM], has distanced itself from remarks that were purportedly made by Councillor Gabito Mwaungulu on his official Facebookook page.

Councillor Mwaungulu was arrested by police following his careless statement deemed at insulting with vulgar words the whole of the Presidential Committee on Covid-19.

Upon his arrest, Mwaungulu is reported to have collapsed under police custody and was rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital.

In a statement signed by the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo, the UTM says the remarks made by councillor Mwaungulu do not in any way represent the thinking and ideals of the UTM party in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The statement is requesting members of the general public to treat the sentiments made by councilor Mwaungulu, as personal to the councillor.

The Party is applauding and commending the work and all the efforts being carried out by the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 pandemic.

……”We pray that every effort should yield positive result,’’….reads the statement in part.

UTM is therefore reminding its members and the general public to observe all the Covid-19 protocols in the prevention of the spread of the Coronavirus, that together, Malawians can beat the Covid-19 pandemic.
