UTM President worries over political violence

Vice President of Republic Malawi Dr Saulos Chilima who is also the president of United Transformation Movement (UTM) has condemned continued acts of political violence and intimidations, against opposing political parties saying its unconstitutional and has no place in democracy.

The VP made the remarks on Wednesday during the press briefing to address the nation on issues rocking the country such as political violence, lack of good governance as well as lack of accountability and transparency.

On political violence, Chilima highlighted some of the victims affected by political violence such as Veronica Katanga of Mangochi who was assaulted and undressed by unknown people allegedly DPP supporters and  Edward Govati of Malawi Congress party (MCP) who suffered the same political torture.

Therefore, chilima appealed to president peter muntharika to take action and end the political violence in the country by bringing all the perpetrators to justice regardless of political party.

‘’we will announce within the next 48 hours which party we are going into alliance with,’’chilima said.

Chilima also revealed that he is going to announce his running mate soon after submission of the presidential nomination papers to Malawi Electrol Commission(MEC).
