The High Court of Malawi Lilongwe Registry has ordered Sheriffs to seize and sell all moveable properties of former President Professor Peter Mutharika and former Chief Secretary to Government, Lloyd Muhara for failing to pay the costs of MK69,507,461.00.
Professor Peter Mutharika and Lloyd Muhara were found guilty of sending Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda SC and Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeal, Edward Twea SC on early leave pending retirement.
The Respondents have only paid MK 47,437, 125.11 and they remain indebted to the Applicants; Human Rights Defenders Coalition [HRDC], the Association of Judges and the Malawi Law Society [MLS] in the sum of K22,070,335.89.
The order has come after the Anti-Corruption Bureau [ACB] closed all the accounts of former President Professor Peter Mutharika pending further investigations.
Speaking recently in Mangochi to the media, Professor Mutharika accused the Tonse Alliance Government of persecuting him and other senior members of his Democratic Progressive Party [DPP] describing the freeze of his accounts as a deliberate ploy to block him from funding his party, the DPP.
Professor Mutharika asked the incumbent President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to learn to respect the office of the former presidents, saying is a thing which is lacking in Dr. Chakwera.
Meanwhile, Police in Lilongwe have arrested Dabbie Dissi, one of the personal bodyguards to the former Head of State, Professor Peter Mutharika on allegations of theft of government motor vehicle. According to National Police Public.
Relations Officer [PRO], James Kadadzera [ACP], it is believed that Dissi was in custody of a Toyota prado TXL registration number BW 687 without authority.
