Enlightened Gathering Church (EGC) leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri says his coming to Malawi was not aimed at seeking any political intervention or sympathy.
Bushiri was speaking recently while handing over some school blocks constructed by Sheperd Bushiri Foundation in Mzimba district.
The Prophet, who said he is freer in Malawi where police officers do not force him to give bribes as was the case in South Africa where he was threatened with death, said he came to Malawi as his home and as such people should not question his motives.
He added that he came to Malawi to seek constitutional address on his issues and not to attract any political sympathy. Bushiri said since his mysterious arrival in the country in November 2020, he has never had any interactions with any political bigwigs including President Lazarus Chakwera, which he said is an indication that he is not in the country seeking political intervention in his matters.
“I am free here at home, as no police officers have ever come to me to ask for any money as a bribe as was the case in South Africa,” said Bushiri.
Bushiri explained that he is ready to go back to South Africa to answer the alleged charges, but said he would only do so once the local courts give proper direction on his matters.
Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako, recently said government would not shield Bushiri. He said like any other person who defies the law Bushiri would go through all the other court processes
“As government we would not shield Bushiri, we expect that he would go through all the court processes as is the case with any offender,” said Kazako.
Bushiri bolted from South Africa in November last year where he is expected to answer multiple charges including that of money laundering.
