paramount Chief Dr. Lundu said every tribe is known by its culture and education is a key if tribes are to develop hence encouraging girls to go to school.
He said it is his wish that Chewa girls are becoming locomotive drivers, plumbers, electricians, pilots so that they compete with men in the building of the country.
Speaking during the second Annual General Assembly of Bwalo la Chewa Foundation ( BOLA- CEFO) in Dowa, Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu lamented that drop out rate in schools among the Chewa girls is high in the country saying this is a wake up call for Bwalo la Chewa to start doing something in order to reverse the trend.
Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu said some Chewa cultural practices have forced many girls to be out of school saying Bwalo la Chewa will keep the cultural practices and traditional dances that are helpful for the girl child to be in school.
He assured Malawians that Bwalo la Chewa is not a political organization saying it is there to preserve and promote the aspirations of all the Chewas in Malawi.
In his remarks, Chief Executive Director of the Bwalo la Chewa Foundation, Rev. Flywell Somanje said the grouping is the only voice for all the Chewas in Malawi, appealing to all the Chewas to support it.
Rev. Somanje reminded the delegates that according to the Chewa culture, a child comes from where the mother comes from, matrilineal system of marriage, saying in Dowa, there are no Ngonis, all are the Chewas.
He said the Ngonis who were warriors invaded the district and married Chewa women saying this is a clear testimony that the children born out are the Chewas.
The Reverend assured Malawians that Bwalo la Chewa has a strong vision of uniting all the Chewas in Malawi saying that vision has been achieved with the coming to the open of many Chewa chiefs supporting its activities.
Bwalo la Chewa Foundation was officially registered by the office of the Registrar General on 18th April, 2018 as the only voice of all the Chewas in Malawi under His Royal Highness Paramount chief Dr. Lundu as its patron with Chewa Heritage Foundation ( CHEFO) being honoured as an international NGO for the Chewas of Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi.
