The Presidential Task force committee on Covid-19 announcement of closing borders and restricting public gatherings to a maximum of 100 people, has forced the Enlightened Christian Gatherings [ECG] Church to stop holding the 2020/2021 Miracle Crossover Night on 31st December, 2020 at Umodzi Park in Lilongwe, and to go online.
The Miracle Crossover Night was planned to be held at the Bingu National Sports Stadium in Lilongwe but cancelled at the eleventh hour by stadium management citing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions as a major contributing factor looking at the number of delegates coming from inside and outside Malawi.
The Crossover Night has for the past four years been held in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa at FNB Stadium and Malawi will host it for the first time with the leader of the ECG Church, Prophet Shepherd and his wife, Prophetess Mary Bushiri , who fled to Malawi after skipping bail in a South African court answering a charge of fraud and money laundering.
In a statement released by ECG Church’s Head of Communications, Ephraim Nyondo dated 23rd December, 2020, says in compliance with Malawi Government new Covid-19 regulations, the Church will hold the much awaited 2020/2021 Miracle Night Crossover online on 31st December, saying over one million people worldwide will be accommodated in an online conference through zoom and Major 1 connect.
The ECG Church says just like its leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, it is a compliant organization and believes in respecting the rule of law and in the 47 countries where it operates, the Church has an enviable record of being law abiding.
……”The Church understands that Covid-19 is a serious public health problem which calls for concerted effort between the Church and State,’’…..reads the statement in part.
The Church says in restricting gatherings and closing the land borders, it acknowledges that the Government has taken a right step in protecting Malawians and as such, all Malawians need to comply.
