President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has approved the promotion of T/A Mwansambo of Nkhotakota [Petros Yohane] to the status of Senior Chief with effect from the 24th December 2020.
This is contained in a letter dated 20th January 2021 signed by the Director of Chiefs in the Ministry of Local Government, Charles Makanga with a copy to Nkhotakota District Commissioner, to convey the message of approval to the royal family so that they should fix the date for the Elevation ceremony.
Meanwhile, Bwalo la Chewa Foundation [BOLA–CEFO] has sent a message of best wishes to the newly prompted chief Mwansambo, describing his promotion as good news to the Chewa family in Malawi.
Its National Executive Director, Reverend Flywell Somanje, says there are many Chewa chiefs with traceable history but failed to get promotions due to political influences, only those who were supporting party politics were the ones considered.
Rev. Somanje says Chief Mwansambo deserves promotion and his promotion is based on justice which has prevailed for his hard working spirit in initiating development projects for his area.
He is advising Chief Mwansambo to continue with his hard working spirit, with assurance that the entire Bwalo la Chewa will join him and his subjects on the Elevation ceremony.
Reverend Somanje, has expressed a vote of thanks to the Director of Chiefs, Charles Makanga for demonstrating excellent professionalism in matters affecting chiefs in Malawi, wishing him good luck and abundant blessings.
…….’’We have other Chewa chiefs that deserve promotions such as T/A Kasakula and Chilooko in Ntchisi and Clan leader, Mkanthama in Dowa, and others,’’…..says Reverend Somanje.
Bwalo la Chewa Foundation has expressed its commitment to work with the Government particularly on issues of chiefs saying it is advocating for a Chewa chiefs Council in Malawi so that all chieftainship wrangles are resolved by the chiefs themselves and not through the courts.
