DPP Calls on Chakwera to Leave Office Immediately

The Democratic Progressive Party [DPP], has called upon President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to leave office immediately saying he has ceased to be a legitimately elected President of the Republic of Malawi because the election that elected him into office was presided over by an unconstitutional body.

The DPP has since called on the courts to nullify the election of President Dr. Chakwera and his vice, Dr. Saulosi Chilima and revert to the position as it was before the 23rd June 2020 saying their decision to pursue this course is underpinned by the Constitution which is the Supreme law of the land.

The Party has also called on the courts to nullify all the by-elections conducted and the presidential elections  of 23rd June 2020 on grounds of undue election because the electoral body was not duly constituted according to law.

In the statement dated 15th April 2021 signed by the Party’s Spokesperson, Hon. Brown James Mpinganjira, the DPP says it has noted the decision of the President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera rescinding the appointment of Commissioners, Mrs. Angelina Linda Kunje and Dr. Jean Mathanga which was made by the former President Professor Peter Mutharika on 7th June 2020.

The DPP says Commissioners Kunje and Dr. Mathanga were sworn in soon after their appointment and participated in the conduct and organization of the 23rd June, 2020 court ordered Presidential General Elections as members of the Commission.

…”We hasten to point out that Commissioners Kunje and Dr. Mathanga were re-appointed by the former President in exercise of the powers vested on a president by the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi…,’’ reads part of the statement.

Meanwhile, Chancellor College legal practitioner, Dr. Sunduzwayo Madise, says anyone arguing that this means all the past elections were null needs to go Mpemba and do a -6 months certificate course , it will open their eyes.
